Pb1A Video game trailers

I chose to do video game trailers. My 3 games were Little Big Planet 4, Fortnite, and Kingdom hearts.

Before I watched any of the trailers I said that each ad will show the same type of conventions because that’s what makes it a video game trailer.
The conventions I said were going to be there are
•colorful  •meaning of game •most interesting parts of the game
•release dates •age range for users
•directors/ company’s its made by
•price of game •game title

Example 1-kingdom hearts

Example 2- little big planet

Example 3- Fortnite

After I went back to look at my predictions compared to what’s actually in the game and I found that in little big planet colorful, most interesting parts of game, game title, company it’s made by we’re all in there. While in Fortnite it was colorful, game title, most interesting parts, music somewhat showed up. Finally, in kingdom hearts it’s colorful, title, creator, music, interesting parts of game, and release date showed up.

After looking at all my data and watching the trailers I saw that I missed characters, weapons shown, tones/sounds, settings and genre. Therefore after all this in my opinion what makes a game ad a game ad is game titles, settings, tones, important characters, colorful, interesting parts of game, and the release dates shown are what make the ad an ad.
In conclusion we can all say video game ads have their differences but at the same time they wouldn’t be ads without some of the information in them.

In the reading Boyd talks about rhetorical features. Rhetorical features can be described really easily, such as (audience, purpose, context, style, and tone). Throughout the video game ads you can see these things appear. Every ad the audience was mainly gamers, consumers, buyers and kids. The purpose of these ads is to get consumers to buy the product and give you information about the product to get you interested. The style of these ads are persuasive so your interested to buy. The tone is all different because depending on the type of game it can be a soft low pitch tone or a high pitched tone.

  1. Good Job! I really loved how you were thorough throughout your whole Project Builder 1A .I actually used your Project Builder 1A as a template for my conventions as I was writing my own. I am not a big fan of game trailers but I am a fan! I liked how you made your readers aware of what you thought both before and after your predictions. It's not easy for everyone to admit that they missed something ( like an important detail). While reading this you gave me a clear image in my head of what you were explaining. Great job! Love how you presented and explained your three examples vividly as well as provided evidence. I also like how you added Boyd’s reading into this to describe the audience, purpose, context, style and tone.

  2. Video game trailers are a great example of a genre that most people in our generation are aware of. Comparing three separate games, and totally different genres, makes it even easier to see how similar yet different these trailers can be. Whether it be Fortnite or Little Big Planet, video game trailers all have the same thing in common; to get the viewer to buy the game. By ending your writing with a summary of Boyd’s theory, it gives the reader a great summary of what you were trying to get across.

  3. I enjoyed reading this and I really like that you came up with a different idea and explained the video trailers. I liked how you went into detail about each video and you how you made your own predictions and then talked about if the outcome was what you thought it would or wouldn’t be. I did not know much about video games because I don’t really play video games but it was a cool thing that you gave a little information on the video games and its trailers. You did a good job going into depth about everything in your paragraphs and explaining what makes a video game trailer a video game trailer. I also enjoyed reading about the different conventions because that’s something that I had never even thought about. Your detailed descriptions shows the connection that you have with your interest in video games. Overall you good job, I enjoyed reading.

  4. Kati, First great blog I enjoyed reading this, you were clear and to the point. When it comes to game trailers on any game, I personally think the beginning of any game trailer is the most important. If a game trailer just jumps right into the game kids lose interest unless the game is just hard core tuff. Stating a game trailer with fire, slow music, life like features, someone dying, crazy weapons, story line etc.... is all so important. "catching the eye" is what is going to make that game sell. Fortnite is evident of all of that. again amazing blog. Keep it up.

  5. yooo! yes!! video game trailers are everything. and with each upcoming year they progress as does the technology within the games. Fortnite, as you mentioned above, took the gaming community by storm! many other games have also done so and their trailers are the key for them to get successful. i think its great that you used video game trailers because it is something, especially people in the gaming community, pay attention to. this is a well structured and informative blog post i love it!

  6. Great blog, everything was well organized and easy to understand. I like the way you picked 3 different types of games and still show that they all have similar rhetorical features and conventions. I agree these rhetorical features and conventions are important to a game trailer, since some game will show a game teaser without them before the trailer. As a consumer I often find those not helpful at all since not much about the game are shown.I also think platform should also be one of the convention so the audience would know which gaming platform they can play the game on. Overall great job on the blog.

  7. Great job Kate !!! Even though i'm not really a big fan of video games I still like liked what you wrote and I like how you organized everything to help us better understand your topic. I also liked how you added 3 examples of different video games. Some of my close friends that love video games always look at the trailers too also because to me I believe that's how you could really tell if it's worth buying it or not. I like the topic you chose because I basically did the similar thing, but I chose movie trailers and with that I always watch the trailers to see if the movie is worth watching or not.
